Justin Agans Embraces the Rich Legal History of His Plaza Midwood Home

I was grateful to be chosen for the Diane’s Deli feature story in the November/December 2019 issue of the Mecklenburg Bar News publication. Julie K. Adams, an HR lawyer with FordHarrison who serves on the Communications Committee for the Mecklenburg County Bar, was kind enough to interview me after seeing an article about our recent home renovation in the Charlotte Agenda.

As background, my home was built in 1946 by the McMillan family – and the Honorable James B. McMillan was a federal judge on the US District Court for the Western District of North Carolina for over 20 years. Judge McMillan is most remembered for his role in desegregating schools through busing, and we continue to appreciate the rich history of his work to this day.

His legacy and the idea that he contemplated and worked on that decision were a part of why we bought the home in the first place, and the history of the home influenced us to renovate it rather than tear it down and rebuild from scratch. I look forward to the day when my children (now just three and one, respectively) will understand the importance of our home’s history.
