Matthew Chambers Earns Certified Information Privacy Professional in Europe (CIPP/E) Certification for GDPR Compliance
Spengler Agans Bradley is pleased to announce that Matthew Chambers, the firm’s intellectual property and information privacy attorney, has earned the ANSI-accredited Certified Information Privacy Professional in European data protection law (CIPP/E) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
“We congratulate Matthew on his dedication and achievements in the rapidly evolving area of privacy law. His focus on European cybersecurity practices, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), will help more and more Charlotte corporate clients and startups impacted by the European laws every day. His most recent accreditation as a CIPP/E, along with prior American certification as a CIPP/US, are invaluable resources to our clients looking for information privacy compliance,” said Justin Agans, managing partner of Spengler Agans Bradley. “The GDPR has corporations worried about million-dollar fines and avoiding European clients. With the right information privacy attorney, businesses can sell again to Europeans.”
Accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the CIPP/E designation indicates comprehensive knowledge, perspective, and understanding of GDPR compliance, according to the IAPP. IAPP works with leading subject matter experts to create the world’s first broad-based global privacy and data protection credentialing program. The credentials meet worldwide, industry-recognized benchmarks, showing the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform information security work across the world, according to the IAPP. Founded in 2000, the not-for-profit IAPP is the largest and most comprehensive global information privacy community and resource for global privacy professionals. The CIPP/E encompasses pan-European and national data protection laws, the European model for privacy enforcement, key privacy terminology, and practical concepts concerning the protection of personal data and trans-border data flows.
The head of Spengler Agan Bradley’s intellectual property and information privacy practice, Matthew has dedicated himself to assisting Charlotte startups and corporate clients since 2017. He develops privacy policies, privacy notices, breach notifications, and privacy compliance for new and existing businesses, with a focus on increasingly complex data protection issues in emerging technologies. He leverages prior digital media legal experience to deal with emerging information privacy and intellectual property challenges.
